  regarding the "stand your ground" law, bill maher joked that if the law was on the books in his state (california, i believe), his front lawn would be littered with jehovah's witnesses.

  we're told she says she's a jehovah's witness and swears in the tennis court.

  Corned Beef

  last year i purchased a corned beef package from trader joes.

  i love corned beef but my husband didn't so i rarely cooked it for the family.

  but trader joes was passing out samples last year, i couldn't resist and hubby decided he liked it but i'm only to buy the corned beef from trader joes.

  ...Urging the friends to work in pairs -- as a general practice -- seems to me a significant departure from the WT push for productivity. There are hard-line JWs I know, usually old timers, who regard pairing up as a cowardly cop-out from facing up to the worldies one-to-on-one.

  i've noticed an attitude among the friends that they feel that they are owed something by society.

  example: at the last meeting one of the elders gave a talk about how "the system" is getting harder and harder to make a living.. .

  i know its a recession out there, but to blame satan the devil for your economic woes is kinda harsh don't you think.

  I wouldn't describe his personality as "horrible;" he was eccentric, absent-minded, suprficially rather amiable and approachable, with a self-deprecating sense of humor... all that changed in an instant upon any challenge to his opinions on any subject relating to WT dogma.

  i noted in a thread on kingdom hall remodelling that some mentioned that a call for donations of gold jewellery was made from the platform.

  since this sounds like something that would have been presented by a part on the service meeting and therefore noted in the kingdom ministry schedule, can anyone recall the specifics of this?

  if so, how recently?

  Thanks, Alfred, that I remember (mentioned in a 1983 Awake! magazine, I believe). I was referring to a more recent request, reportedly here in the U.S. as I understand it.
